J Street statement on PM Netanyahu’s address at Bar-Ilan University

J Street Executive Director Jeremy Ben-Ami released the following statement after Prime Minister Netanyahu’s address yesterday at Bar-Ilan University: J Street welcomes Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s acceptance of the principle that a Palestinian state should exist alongside the state of Israel.  We second the reaction of President Obama that this as an important step forward, and we welcome the President’s continued commitment to work toward a two-state solution and comprehensive, regional peace. While the Prime Minister’s acceptance of a Palestinian state is a welcome development, we regret his failure to acknowledge Israel’s commitment to a full settlement freeze on the West Bank and in East Jerusalem (including natural growth).  President Obama has rightly insisted on a settlement freeze not as an end in itself, but as an essential step to preserve the possibility of a two-state solution.

Back to the blogosphere

Sorry we've been a little quiet lately. To ease you back, here's a piece done by one of our members at the Chronicle of Higher Education about using the university's progress towards sustainability as a teaching tool: “The mission of colleges and universities is to prepare students for the world they’re entering, and to do so, they need to offer students more practical experience. But students interested in sustainability are often limited to joining a recycling club or making posters about the merits of biking.

J Street responds to misleading Ariel University and IMRA polls

Update: J Street’s original statement on Friday failed to acknowledge that the news report on Israeli public opinion on settlements to which it was responding referred to two polls, not one.  One poll was commissioned by the university in the settlement of Ariel.  The other was commissioned by the right-wing Independent Media Review and Analysis. Today, J Street released the following statement in response to a recent poll sponsored by Ariel University Center and IMRA: In the coming days and weeks, the settlers and their allies will engage in all manner of trickery and deceit in an effort to mislead the Obama Administration and the American public about Israeli sentiment regarding settlements. Today’s quasi-poll, sponsored by Ariel University Center, the only settlement university, and published only in the clear rightist Makor Rishon-Hatzofe newspaper and not in any mainstream Hebrew press, is a good example of the half-truths and lies that will be injected into the debate.

Advantages of Nortbrook Storage

Aside from people and families, entities like companies and entrepreneurs can also rent storage facilities in major cities around the country, particularly in Northbrook IL 60062. Institutions and businesses that benefit most from such facilities are small to medium enterprises that cannot afford to buy huge warehouses for their products or raw materials inventory. Renting several storage units is actually a lot more economical than renting a whole warehouse.

Not so soon…

So school for me is not exactly over.  I have decided to take a class this summer so I will be back in the studying-mode for a little bit.  I am taking it at the local community college and it is only second term so it shouldn't be that bad.  It is kind of an ordeal to get registered for classes at a different school, though.  You first have to make sure that the credit will transfer.  Then you have to get a letter of transiency from your original school send to your other school.  Then you have to apply, be accepted and register at the school that you would like to take classes at in the summer.  Once you know the steps its not that hard but getting them all done by the deadline can be kind of stressful.  I think that more schools should educate their students about the process because a lot of students do it.  I got it done, thankfully, and I will start class at the end of this month!

Sotomayor “Wise Woman” Comment Part of a Pattern

From CQ Politics : Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor delivered multiple speeches between 1994 and 2003 in which she suggested “a wise Latina woman” or “wise woman” judge might “reach a better conclusion” than a male judge. Those speeches, released Thursday as part of Sotomayor’s responses to the Senate Judiciary Committee’s questionnaire, (to see Sotomayor’s responses to the Senate Judiciary Committee click here and here ) suggest her widely quoted 2001 speech in which she indicated a “wise Latina” judge might make a better decision was far from a single isolated instance.

On taking two classes at once and the necessary repercussions

(Isn’t that just a lovely sort of pontificating title) But seriously, I started a couple classes behind most of the people who are currently in my program, so I decided to catch up by taking an online class and a face-to-face class at the same time. I was totally overwhelmed by (a) the amount of reading and (b) the amount of time it took to simply finish the minimum amount of coursework required. The lesson that can be drawn from this: never, ever procrastinate! Failure will follow! So, now I write down two things that I want to get done on a given day.

Home Sweet Home

I am now back at home.  My stuff is all over the house and I can barely move around in my room but sleeping in my own bed is very nice!  I am looking forward to seeing all of my friends from home and catching up but I can already tell that it's going to be a little weird being home after all this time.  Everyone has their own things that they are doing and places they are going.  Some of my friends are studying abroad or taking summer classes or getting jobs so I don't know how much time I will actually have to hang out with them.  We'll see!
