Being a somewhat shy person, networking has never been something I can easily do. Reaching out to people with whom I have an established relationship isn’t a problem, but it’s much harder for me to make contact with those with whom I don’t have a relationship, particularly if I need to ask them for something. What I usually end up doing is networking with friends and close acquaintances and wondering if I should be networking with others I don’t know as well but who are better contacted

When I introduce the psychological disorders unit in both intro psych and biopsych, I spend quite a bit of time discussing what we mean in psychology by the term “abnormal.” This sometimes seemed like overkill–the students were always anxious to get into the meat of the material. After reading Allen Frances’ commentary on DSM V in the Los Angeles Times , though, I am more than ever convinced that the time spent in the discussion of “abnormal” is time well spent.
