Significant praise
Jennifer Ouellette is a science writer, blogger, smart chick, and head of the Science and Entertainment Exchange (SEE), a high-level effort to get more science into movies. She also spoke at TAM 7 last week, where we threw her on a panel with Penn & Teller, My Close Personal Friend Adam Savage™, and Bill Prady (co-executive producer of "The Big Bang Theory"). She was concerned about her impact in such a high-powered panel, but I think she was awesome.

DEATH at Comic Con
Just a heads-up for me droogs: If you are attending Comic Con, I’ll be signing copies of my book Death from the Skies! at the Mysterious Galaxy booth (#1119) on Friday, July 24 (today!) from 6:00 to 6:50 p.m. I’ll note that they have advance copies of the new paperback edition of the book! I hadn’t even known the paperback version would be ready by now, so I’m very excited to see it! This is your first chance to get a look, and the only one for some time; the paperback won’t go to mass market for a few more months. This is a Comic Con special, so grab ‘em while you can! I won’t be carrying around copies of the book, so the only way you can get ‘em AFAIK is there.

De-orbiting the ISS in 2016?
I was very disturbed to see an article in the Washington Post claiming that a top NASA official was saying that the International Space Station might be purposely de-orbited as early as 2016! That shocked me. I am no fan of the ISS, and wish that money had been spent instead on a concerted effort to build a Moonbase — or almost anything else — but now that the money is spent it’s crazy to talk about dropping it into the Pacific just a few years after it’s built. Well, as it turns out, the date of 2016?

No, LRO won’t convince the Apollo deniers
I’ve been reading a lot about Apollo lately — the 40th anniversary of Apollo 11 is almost upon us — and of course the Moon is in my thoughts anyway with the advent of NASA’s Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter now snapping away. as it circles our cosmic neighbor. I’ve done some interviews about this, and been asked about it endlessly: will the LRO’s incredibly high-resolution images of the lunar surface, including, eventually, the Apollo landing sites, finally quell the lunacy of the Moon Hoax believers?
